Why we are discontinuing the Bukisa Index and moving to the Google AdSense API

As you know, we pride ourselves in being very open and transparent with our community. This was one of the main reasons the Bukisa Index came to be, as we felt it was the best way for users to know exactly how much revenue share they will get (and without having to write about ‘expensive’ topics to make more money). It’s simple, really .. write great content, bring in readers and get paid for doing so.
That was the theory, at least. In practice, over the last 2+ years, the Bukisa Index has been declining, as the percentage of bad/fake traffic has been increasing … sometimes reaching as much as 30% of the entire traffic per day! We have even been forced to block access from certain countries to combat this.
Over the last year, our team has been spending an increasing amount of time on detecting these types of bad traffic, along with a growing number of spammer users. This has caused us to not be able to put as much focus as we’d like on our product and community, but instead play policeman all day long. This is definitely not what we had in mind when Bukisa started and it may only worsen as we continue to grow.
So we are very excited to be announcing our move to handling the complete Bukisa revenue share program via the Google AdSense API program.
This will allow us the freedom to focus on making Bukisa better for us all, the Bukisa Team and the Bukisa Community alike. It is our belief that you will be able to earn even more money for writing great and unique content on Bukisa with Google AdSense, Google AdSense is our top revenue stream on Bukisa and you even get to keep 60% of revenues paid directly to you by Google.
We will be following up with several blog posts in the upcoming days which will highlight the new features and guides for using Google AdSense on Bukisa.

Hi,
I’ve just tried to link my existing Adsense account as requested. I’m UK based and I when I enter my postcode in the zip code field I get an error messagee. Is there a problem with non-US integration that you’re aware of?

There should be an open option for Bukisa members whether to sign up with google adsense or not. If there is no such option then I’m afraid I could get back to basics. How I wish freedom of the press could be well enjoyed despite crucial web trends which tend to threaten this kind of freedom.

@Demetrew you do not have to open an AdSense account on Bukisa in order to signup – its only required if you would like to earn revenue sharing on your content.

Sounds like a great change! My only question is if the same article rights will be in place with the new system. For example, allowing previously published content and maintaining rights. If the only change is getting paid with adsense, then Bukisa is my next residual income project.

My postal code won’t work either; I just get an error message telling me that it needs numbers even though it does have them.

I had suggested this idea a few months ago in Bukisa community feed back. I had the same opinion too viz writers can earn more. Im happy about the move. Cheers to Bukisa

This is a bad change. Why don’t you guys atleast do the same way Triond is doing? That is have non-adsense option along with Adsense option. WHile Adsense earnings will be huge, the non-adsense ads too will earn little or more depending on what other advertisers’ ads earn.
It looks like on Triond it is not chitika or any in-text ads but the the top banner and right column banner ads that are earning better.
I thought Bukisa’s index was good. Now this means back to low earnings. I am very disappointed. Atleast give us some option of lesser Bukisa index and try to improve that over time with better strategy like geo-traffic distribution (high GDP country audience vs. low GDP , topic keywords – commercial vs. non-commercial oriented etc.). I know you can do it.

In the Google adsense signing page I am unable to enter my Email ID since it is not accepting too many fields. My ID is “krishnamoorthy.guruprasath@gmail.com” and I am able to enter only upto krishnamoorthy.guruprasath@gmail.c” since it accepts only 34 characters… this need to be corrected…. !

What about those people who don’t have an adsense account or got banned by google for some reason. Also new accounts are hard to be approved especially for Indians, How do such accounts benefit from this program, daily i was getting 200-300 views from search engines and earning about a dollar or so from bukisa. Was happy with my work but now this sudden change has taken all the initiative for me to work on bukisa.
Please give us some alternative to earn from our article views, may be lower index like triond with adsense revenue share, please think on it.

I have just linked my account with Google adsense. Afterwards, I noticed that not all my published articles, slide presentations and videos are missing in the content section. Were are all my uploaded slide presentations and videos gone? They were very nice presentations and i got a good number of views from them. I hope you will bring them back to my “content”. They are very valuable to me.

@AshleyApathy all earnings will be payout – a minimum of $0.5 is required due to limitations with PayPal mass payments.
@kguru1979 we are working on a fix for this

I have some doubts. I hope you will clarify it.
1. Why all the data has been removed from content page?
2. Now there is no referrer program . we are not going to get any thing for referring others. Why should we refer bukisa to others?

Shit! I thought the move made was of a good cause but all my earnings have gone away. This change has not only affected me but the thousands of other members too. I Had a bad experience in Squidoo and Ehow. I thought Bukisa would give me a good exposure but I am in a fix now. This has not only stopped me from writing for Bukisa but I lost total interest in writing. Please think of an alternative and sort out the matter.

@Prajwal all earnings will be paid out by Feb 1st 2011 (as long as you have reached $0.5)
About the missing data on the content page – this is an unrelated bug – the report is missing the data – all data is saved in our database and can also be viewed on the “Content Stats” page which is working correctly.
We will have a fix for this in the next 48 hours.

Well, all I know is that today is my first day getting my earnings through adsense instead of Bukisa and I’m already getting 3x more than I was when it went by views. So I think I like this.

I think there is a misconception about Adsense, it is not necessary to click to earn. For some of the Ads, view also count but the required views much higher compared to those provided by Bukisa index.
My one question that I have is with Bukisa only taking 40% of the income from Adsense, how is Bukisa going to afford to pay for the referral income?

Ashley, from what I can tell, the earnings yesterday is up until the moment that you switched to Adsense. Starting the first full day you are on Adsense, you will see $0.00

I agree with you. I signed up for Google adsense a year ago for some sites, but never kept track of my earnings. Now because of Bukisa’s new change, I am often visiting my account. I am not making much. But today I noticed that there was no click, but a few cents got accumulated. There were only 17 impressions!

I have a number of sites on my Google Adsense account, but Adsense doesn’t seem to allow me to break up the traffic from anything except my own websites. Is there some way in Adsense that I am missing to show traffic only from Bukisa?
Not being able to tell which of my articles did what is sort of problematic: there is simply no way we can be proactive now if there’s no way to see our stats.
Why would we bother continuing to focus our content on Bukisa, exactly? You don’t offer anything except hosting – for 40% AND full rights. Back to the blogs, I guess.

Ashley, I am having the same issue. I am still getting earnings on Bukisa (but only a few pennies). However, my AdSense DEFINITELY says I have earnings from Bukisa there as well…

I am very sad because of the new earning policy.
There are some advertising companies that pay based on impressions. I am glad to hear that you are looking for alternatives.
Keept the Bukisa index, please. I hope that you can offer some other options that allow you to get paid by PayPal.

Don’t see how Google adsense will pay me more. I have a Hubpages account as well and have never seen any revenue from Google Adsense on it. that’s why I stopped bothering to write very much on there.
